Hey everyone! First blog post I have ever done. I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy writing it.
So fair time is coming up on us. I decided at the last minute to go ahead and enter a few girls in the Tulsa State Fair. I am entering a total of 6 girls: Maybelline, May, April Showers, Yuki, and Buttercup. I got all my forms turned in on August 31st with a deadline of September 1st. I'm such a procrastinator and last minute decision maker. I am also waiting for half of their ADGA registration papers to come back. They should be here within the next week or so.
Now the hard part...halter training them. They are soo stubborn! Every...single...one of them. -_- Today was day 3 of half dragging, half walking them around our yard. They screamed, flopped like a fish out of water, and dug their feet into the ground hoping I would give up and stop...but I didn't. They are starting to realized I am more stubborn then they are. Today, I could finally see some progress being made.
A couple days ago, I had a friend out to tattoo all of them. I am new at the showing and registered goats so for anything new like tattooing or disbudding, I usually have a friend show me how its done before I attempt it. I felt bad for my babies but the tattooing wasn't as painful to watch compared to when they got disbudded when they were just a couple weeks old. I also just got my tattoo applicator and letters/numbers in the mail today from Jeffers. I still have 2 that need tattoo'd in one of their ears so I get to try out my new tool and this new process soon enough.
Other news, I got my hands on a 8x16 building! My husband and I have decided to make it my goat building. It already has electric running through it and it is insulated. The only issue is the floor. It was sitting on the ground and so it is pretty much rotted. So my husband, dad, and grandfather have been working on it and getting the floor replaced and stable. I am so excited for this building. I hope to be able to milk my goats in this building regardless what the weather is. We plan to have a either some kind of window AC unit put in or something similar for when it is hot out and then one of those square heaters for the winter. I also plan on storing all the feed in it as well. I can't wait until its complete and I am so grateful for my family for helping out on restoring the floor!
In other news, my June Bug had the cutest little doeling last Wednesday! She is blue eyed, gold with chocolate moon spots. We do plan on keeping her and have named her Carmel.
Last but not least, breeding season is upon us! My poor bucks are in rut and are blubbering all over the girls through the fence. We are planning to wait until October to get the girls bred. That way the babies will be born in March. We had one season where we had them born in January/February and it was a disaster. It was way too cold and it was snowing. We are hoping to use our new registered buck this year, Beards & Tales Iceman. I can't wait to see what babies he gives me!
I'm hoping to put out one of these blogs at least once a month so stay tuned!
